BIO: Proposed biofuel rules could dampen investments

The EPA is expected to soon release proposed standards that are designed to guide ethanol projects in decreasing greenhouse-gas emissions. The agency had to take land-use modifications into account in drafting the rules in compliance with the 2007 energy bill, but the biofuels sector contends that the EPA failed to thoroughly understand those issues. The suggested standards could curb investor interest in such projects, "particularly if it's uncertain whether new technologies can meet the standards," a BIO spokesman said.
