White middle-age women key factor in suicide rate hike

White middle-age women drove a 0.7% overall increase in the U.S. suicide rate between 1999 and 2005, but researchers have no explanation for the change. The suicide rate for middle-age women rose by 3.9%, compared to 2.7% for white men. Poisoning suicides among women jumped 57%.
