Caterpillar: Suppliers could be hurt if demand surges

If demand for Caterpillar products increases, that could affect the company's suppliers. "As fast as we went down, it's not inconceivable that we could head up just as fast," said Dave Burritt, Caterpillar's chief financial officer. Despite about $4 billion in cash in an emergency pool of liquidity at the end of the third quarter, $3 billion more than normal, the company said it wouldn't use the money to help its suppliers drive their businesses back from the crippling recession.
