Federal grants fund increased capacity for wind industry

The wind-energy industry expanded its capacity by 1,649 megawatts in the third quarter, thanks in large part to $1 billion in federal funding. Decreased access to credit had been hurting the industry, but the economic stimulus bill earmarked $66 billion for renewable energy, most of which has not yet been allocated. Government mandates to incorporate renewable resources into utility use are likely to give an additional boost to the wind industry.
