Lawmakers in Mass. question cost of technology training for teachers

A proposal is under consideration by Massachusetts lawmakers to mandate training for teachers in alternative communication technology to better communicate with students with disabilities. The bill was met with resistance from legislators worried about how training would be funded. Parents and advocates of students with special needs say children will learn more and become less frustrated if teachers are trained to use assistive devices such as speech synthesizers when working with students whose ability to speak is impaired.
