Nissan electric-car batteries get second life

Nissan and Japanese trading house Sumitomo will partner in a venture to recycle electric-car batteries. The lithium-ion batteries used in Nissan's cars remain at 70% to 80% capacity even beyond their 10-year life span. The move should give Nissan a competitive advantage in the electric-car market, because it will allow the company to lower the prices of its zero-emissions cars to account for the batteries' resale value.
