Tesco opens Britain's first all-self-service outlet

Tesco has done away with manned checkouts at its Tesco Express outlet in Northampton, U.K., offering five self-scan tills instead. The idea is to speed up the shopper's experience and boost efficiency. Critics say the self-service idea costs jobs. "Customers like the fact there are always five checkouts available. Before you could have four manned checkouts but only one person working the till," a Tesco spokesman said.
