Do your research before deciding on a pet

With 167 canine and 40 feline breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club and Cat Fanciers' Association respectively, choosing a pet that matches one's family lifestyle can be difficult. Conducting research on the different breeds and consulting with veterinarians and others are ways to help make the pet-selection process easier, an American Kennel Club spokeswoman said.
