Fed's "beige book" notes "modest" economic growth

A survey by the Federal Reserve found that the economic recovery remains soft but is no longer decelerating. The Fed's latest "beige book" notes that "national economic activity continued to rise, albeit at a modest pace," in September and into early October. In the central bank's previous beige book, "widespread signs of deceleration" were noted.
