Fed's "beige book" notes "modest" economic growth

A survey by the Federal Reserve found that the economic recovery remains soft but is no longer decelerating. The latest "beige book," a report that surveys economic conditions in different parts of the country, notes that "national economic activity continued to rise, albeit at a modest pace," in September and into early October. In the central bank's previous beige book, "widespread signs of deceleration" were noted.
