Navy to test algae-based biofuel for experimental boat

The Navy will demonstrate Friday an experimental river boat in Virginia that uses a fuel blend containing algae-based biodiesel. "From a strategic perspective, we are reducing reliance on fossil fuels from unstable locations," said Rear Adm. Philip Cullom, director of the Chief of Naval Operations Energy and Environmental Readiness Division. "Tactically, efficient use of energy resources extends our combat range and use of nonpetroleum fuels assures multiple supplies are available."
