Utah considers early-intervention program for children with autism

Legislation is being considered in Utah that would provide early-intervention services to children aged 2 through 6 who have autism. The Medicaid Autism Waiver program would require about $2.4 million in state funding implemented over a three-year period. The program would provide as many as 15 hours of individualized therapy each week and could serve no more than 100 children who have the disorder, leading one legislator to say that the measure could spread "false hope" among parents.
