NCLB rewrite advances in the Senate

The Senate's education committee on Thursday approved an amended bill to overhaul No Child Left Behind, and the lead sponsor says he is hopeful the full Senate will take up the legislation before Thanksgiving. The bill strikes down a requirement that schools meet federal proficiency targets. It also eliminates a requirement that states and schools develop evaluation systems for teachers and principals.
