Carriers could control face of the smart home

If they move swiftly, wireless carriers have an opportunity to beat operating system vendors to the punch in building applications for operating smartphone networks, according to a columnist who points to AT&T's Digital Life initiative as an example of a move in that direction. Noting that carriers have mostly lost control of their smartphone interfaces to the Apples and Googles of the world, the columnist suggests that carriers can drive consumer interest in adopting smart home apps.
