Hotels in Washington, D.C., lost $2 million in revenue and 13,000 room reservations during the 16-day government shutdown, Mayor Vincent Gray said. Data released by STR show a 12.1% decline in occupancy at area hotels during shutdown's first week. "Long-term effects of the shutdown remain to be seen, but in the early going, it clearly had an impact on the overall hotel industry," said Brad Garner, senior vice president at STR.
