Fracking-like technique could access abundant geothermal energy

Geothermal resources could become a major source of carbon-free energy with a new technology that resembles fracking. Seattle-based Alta Rock is demonstrating how the massive heat trapped beneath the U.S. at depths of up to 6 miles can be commonly accessed by fracturing rock along several paths from a single well, thus economically accessing the heat available.
