A look at quake-resistant pipeline beneath San Francisco Bay

Work continues on a five-mile tunnel underneath San Francisco Bay designed to withstand a major earthquake on the San Andreas or Hayward faults. The $286 million Bay Tunnel, some of which can be seen in a KNTV-TV video, is about 90% finished and is part of the $4.6 billion Hetch Hetchy water system improvement plan. The tunnel is scheduled to be completed in late 2014.
