Mileage runs may leave with 2013

Frequent-flier mileage runs, which are end-of-the-year flights to lure more people to an elite status, may be on the chopping block. Airlines such as United and Delta are tightening rules for frequent-flier programs. "With the new revenue requirements in place, mileage running will rarely make economic sense, except in cases where a traveler is just a few miles and dollars short of an elite threshold," said Tim Winship, who publishes FrequentFlier.com.
