More employers offer pet health insurance as perk

Pet health insurance, which can mitigate expensive vet bills, is viewed as a perk for employees by many U.S. companies. About 3,600 companies nationwide, including one-third of Fortune 500 companies, now offer it. The American Pet Products Association estimates that pet health care will cost U.S. pet owners $13 billion this year, but less than 1.5 million of the country's 75 million pets are covered by insurance.
