NASA looks to cloud, Big Data to help unlock the secrets of the universe

NASA computer scientists are leveraging the emerging field of data science to make sense of the massive amounts of data drawn from all corners of the universe and present it in meaningful ways to the researchers who rely on it. According to Eric De Jong of JPL, a principal investigator for NASA's Solar System Visualization project, one project alone -- which will one day align thousands of telescopes on two continents -- will generate as much data in a single day as the entire Internet does every 48 hours.
