Planning ahead helped hospitals cope with the Boston bombing

Boston's hospitals reacted to the Boston Marathon bombing by using the Hospital Incident Command System, or HICS, a management framework modeled on a system developed by California firefighting agencies. HICS focuses on establishing clear on-scene leadership when disasters occur and on coordinating command structures, reporting and flexibility for everyone involved. "Establish the same prep for your business: Whether it's a physical accident, PR gaffe, shareholder fiasco, or anything else, to whom do people report? Who is in charge?
