Researchers call for FDA regulation of probiotics

University of Maryland researchers have called for FDA regulation of probiotics in foods, drugs and dietary supplements. They said that people have different gut bacteria that are affected by diet and health and that allowing products containing probiotics on the market without knowing what microorganisms each contains is not safe. In addition, researchers noted product claims may not be supported by science.
