Annan favors therapeutic cloning for stem cell research

Secretary-General Kofi Annan told a United Nations committee looking into the issue of cloning human embryos for research that he is opposed to a proposal by the U.S. to ban such work. The UN already opposes cloning for the purpose of creating humans. "Obviously it is an issue for the member-states to decide, but as an individual and in my personal view, I think I would go for therapeutic cloning," Annan said.
