Special-educator Therese Russell's golden retriever Abby played with Russell's fifth- and sixth-grade students and helped them find their way for more than 12 years before her death Oct. 10. "She could be calm when she needed to be. She could be jovial when someone needed a pickup. There was something almost human in the way she could assess a situation," said parent Tamara Tikalsky.
