Bill that would have fixed Medicare SGR formula fails in Senate vote

The Medicare Physicians Fairness Act of 2009 on Wednesday failed to get support in the Senate. The bill would have amended the Medicare sustainable growth rate formula and canceled the $240 billion debt linked to it. The defeat of the bill will allow a 22% cut in Medicare physician fees to push through on Jan. 1, without further congressional action.
