Portland and San Francisco race to embrace electric vehicles

San Francisco and Portland are locked in a battle for the title of greenest city, as both try to create infrastructure to support the use of electric vehicles. With the highest national concentration of hybrid-car owners, San Francisco plans to install EV charging stations near City Hall and convert the city's own fleet to hybrid vehicles. Portland plans to offer plug-ins and boasts some of the nation's early-adopted car-sharing, cycling, streetcar and light-rail initiatives.
