Senate defeats bill to repeal Medicare payment formula for doctors

The Senate voted 53-47 to block consideration of a bill that would have overturned a scheduled 21% reduction in doctors' fees under Medicare, due to concerns that the bill was not deficit neutral. It would have cost nearly $250 billion over the next decade and included no tax hikes or spending cuts to offset the cost.
