Type 2 diabetes patients who ate a cup of beans or lentils daily showed greater improvements in blood glucose levels at three months compared with those who ate more whole-wheat items, a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine indicated. Participants on the bean diet also had a reduced estimated 10-year risk of heart attack and stroke, researchers noted.
