Japanese banks shift to longer-term bonds in search for yield

Japan's biggest financial institutions are repositioning debt portfolios to gain increased yield from longer-maturity government bonds. For the fifth consecutive month in September, city banks, which include Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and Mizuho Bank, increased holdings of sovereign debt maturing in 10 years, according to the Japan Securities Dealers Association.
