Justice Department working on 3 probes of BofA, sources say

U.S. attorneys in Georgia and California are looking into mortgage-backed securities from Countrywide Financial, and U.S. attorneys in New Jersey are investigating deals involving Merrill Lynch, according to sources. If lawsuits are filed, Bank of America will join JPMorgan Chase in being investigated under the Financial Institution Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 for actions related to purchases of struggling institutions during the financial crisis.
