Nano-scale cylinders help solar panels trap more light

Rows of Lego-like nano-scale aluminum cylinders attached to the surface of solar panels change the course of light rays that strike them, leading to better absorption and higher power efficiency for the panels beneath, according to this blog post. The development by researchers at Imperial College London is seen as a low-cost way to better absorption, which in turn can increase panel efficiency as much as 22%.
