September job growth falls short of expectations

The U.S. economy added 148,000 jobs and the unemployment rate dropped to 7.2% in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The jobs report, which was delayed two weeks because of the government shutdown, was worse than 180,000 new positions economists had expected the economy to create last month.
