Study: Holiday travel numbers expected to increase

A new survey by MMGY Global found that 59% of U.S. adults plan to go on at least one vacation between now and January 2014, up from 53% a year ago. The percentage of Americans planning to travel within the next six months is now higher than pre-recession levels. Under the Traveler Sentiment Index, consumer perception on the affordability of travel rose nearly 14 points from April, as perceived safety of travel increased 4 points since July 2012. "[T]hese data suggest that the recovery experienced by the travel industry during the past 18 months will extend well into 2014," said Steve Cohen, a vice president at MMGY Global.
