Teradata touts cloud-based database, new data appliances

Teradata is touting its "Data Warehouse as a Service," the first cloud-hosted subscription service from the company, and has announced plans to offer "Discovery as a Service" and "Data Management as a Service" in early 2014. Teradata also announced the Data Appliance 1700 and Extreme Data Appliance 2750. Separately, Chief Technology Officer Stephen Brobst said at a company conference that Big Data is a topic swathed in confusion and misinformation. "Hardware and software vendors and to some extent consultants do a lot to help that confusion," Brobst said.
