Irradiation still meets opponents

Though studies have shown irradiation kills 99.99% of E. coli in raw meat, the practice is still opposed by some industry groups who argue there is not enough evidence of the practice's safety. Retailers are required to label treated meat products, but restaurants and other food-service operations are not required to inform customers when they are using irradiated meats.
