Younger Marriott leaving to manage investment effort

John W. Marriott III, son of Marriott Chairman and Chief Executive Officer J.W. "Bill" Marriott, said he is leaving Marriott International in January to lead a family-controlled investment fund. Marriott is executive vice president of lodging and was considered the top candidate to take over the company upon his father's retirement.
