Michelin: French Laundry only three-star restaurant in Bay Area

Thomas Keller's French Laundry was the only restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area to be awarded three stars in the area's 2008 Michelin Guide, while Chez TJ of Mountain View and the newly opened Meadowood in St. Helena joined four other establishments in the two-star rankings. "I think that this year there will be once again a bit of a hue and cry about certain choices," said Daniel Patterson, owner and chef at Coi, which earned one star. Michelin is "an organization with a very long and storied history and a certain set of criteria that they use, which sometimes is a little bit baffling from some people's perspective," he said.
