European carriers see drop in passengers for September

For the first time in 25 years, a weak economy has led to a monthly traffic decline for Europe's major carriers, according to the Association of European Airlines. Passenger counts dropped 1.1% in September, with Alitalia, Spanair and Icelandair seeing the biggest declines. Association of European Airlines Secretary General Ulrich Schulte-Strathaus warned the numbers "cannot be expected to recover in the immediate future."
