3 companies report earnings

It's third-quarter earnings season. Black & Decker reported that its third-quarter net income was down 35% from last year's level, but per-share income still beat analysts' expectations. Meanwhile, sales at Saint Gobain fell almost 14% in the third quarter, but the company is optimistic about the next six months. Briggs & Stratton Corp. reported a fiscal first-quarter loss approaching $9 million, in part a result of declining sales.
