East Penn's emissions efforts praised by officials

Officials at a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection meeting lauded East Penn Manufacturing Co. for taking steps to lower air emissions. Meeting participants discussed a designation that would limit expansion for East Penn and Exide Technologies and noted that Exide's Hyde Park smelter continues to get violations for poor air quality. Berks County Commissioner Christian Y. Leinbach said East Penn deserves special consideration because it has taken proactive steps to reduce harmful emissions.
