Results of a Pennsylvania study funded by the Heinz Endowments provides hard evidence that early-childhood education improves the prospects for academic success in at-risk children, writes Theresa Heinz, chairwoman of the philanthropic organization. In this opinion piece, Heinz argues that the research, which showed that at-risk children who participated in high-quality preschool programs were less likely to be placed in special education, should end the debate over investment in early-childhood education.
