Rail traffic stays steady in recent weeks, group says

The week ended Oct. 17 marked the one-year anniversary of the traffic downturn in the railroad industry, according to the Association of American Railroads. Traffic was down 15.4% from levels in the same week in 2008, but observers also note that loads have remained steady in the past few weeks. Meanwhile, groups that represent shippers say year-over-year declines in traffic volumes will start to ease as the year draws to a close.
