U.K. economy sees surprise contraction

The U.K. economy contracted 0.4% in the third quarter, the Office for National Statistics said, surprising economists who had predicted GDP would grow by 0.1%. The contraction marks a record six straight quarters of economic slowdown. Distribution, hotels and restaurants led the decline, with service output falling 0.2%.
