Virginia considers new ratio standards for special-education teachers

Virginia's Board of Education wants the state to set new staffing rules that would provide caseload limits for teachers of students who are disabled and set teacher-student ratio standards for other special-education and gifted-education teachers. The board also is considering asking the state to set ratios for support staff -- a move opposed by teachers and school leaders who say local school districts could not afford to hire more support staff.
