Beached pilot whale suffered from parasite infection

A flatworm found in the aorta of a pilot whale during a necropsy likely contributed to the death of the juvenile whale found beached in New England. Officials believe the flatworm is one of several reasons why the whale was ill for many days before becoming beached in North Plymouth; further pathology reports are pending.
