Fed plans Thursday vote on liquidity ratios

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve will vote Thursday on a proposal stemming from the Basel III financial reforms that would impose a liquidity coverage ratio on banks. "Everyone agrees that there must be a better safeguard in place for the banking sector to bring it back to its primary function as a credit intermediary for the public and less of a vehicle for financial speculation," said Adolfo Laurenti of Mesirow Financial. The liquidity coverage ratio could change the buying behavior of banks, experts say.
