Minority, female students need greater STEM awareness

Helping Hispanic, African-American and female students learn more about the opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math will not only help those populations, but society in general, writes Concetta M. Stewart, interim president of Mercy College. She suggests that if these underrepresented groups pursue careers in engineering and other STEM professions, they will raise children who will do likewise, creating a cycle of success that benefits everyone.
