South Africa targets Q1 2014 release of shale gas permits

South Africa seeks to release shale natural gas exploration licenses in the first quarter of 2014, said Susan Shabangu, the country's mineral resources minister. "Now we have a 30-day period where we are expecting to get public comments from the various parties; by early next year, it will be done," she said. The country last week issued proposed hydraulic fracturing rules, which would require energy producers to disclose the chemicals used in fracking as well as meet American Petroleum Institute standards for equipment.
