Twitter's experimental accounts could offer a glimpse of the future

Twitter is experimenting with app-like accounts that offer customized services when users follow them. One service, @magicrecs, offers content recommendations via direct messages to its followers; another, @eventparrot, gives real-time direct-message updates on breaking news. "Making these services regular accounts that people follow to opt in to is a clever way to introduce this new kind of function without changing Twitter's overall design much," Tom Simonite writes.
