Federal reinsurance for high-cost medical cases gains support

Support is growing in both political parties for proposals to have the government fight high insurance costs by protecting employers from the most expensive medical cases. The plans involve reinsurance, not unlike existing federal reinsurance programs for floods and other natural disasters. Without such a step, more employers will cut back or eliminate employee health benefits, supporters say.
